The Madeley School of Dance, Didsbury

The Madeley School of Dance, Didsbury

The Madeley School of Dance was established in 1958 by Vera Madeley at Emmanuel Church Hall in Didsbury, where classes still take place today. In 1988, her daughter - Sally Owens - (B.A Hons Dance Theatre, FNATD and registered teacher at RAD) began teaching at the school and took over as principal in 1996.

At this time, the school taught styles in ballet, tap and modern stage but in recent years contemporary, street and cheer dance have been introduced to the curriculum by other teachers at the school. The school welcomes children from the age of three to eighteen years and in addition there is a ballet class for adults.

The children are given the opportunity to take exams and participate in a show biannually. Profits from the shows are donated to various charities. The students have recently been given more performance opportunities; performing at a showcase at The Plaza in Stockport with other dance schools and at The Makers Market in West Didsbury. The school ethos is focused on giving the children equal opportunities, friendship and enjoyment.
